There are many types of building insulation materials. According to different classification methods, they can be divided into organic, inorganic and composite materials. The following are some common building insulation materials:
1. Organic insulation materials
- Polystyrene foam board (EPS/XPS)
- Molded polystyrene foam (ordinary foam board): has good insulation performance, but poor fire resistance.
- Extruded polystyrene foam (extruded board): higher density, better strength, but relatively high cost.
- Polyurethane foam
- Pre-sprayed rigid foam polyurethane: on-site spraying, suitable for building structures with complex shapes, with excellent insulation performance.
- Rigid foam polyurethane insulation board: prefabricated board, easy to install, good insulation effect.
- Phenolic foam
It has Class A fire resistance, but it will carbonize at high temperature and lose its insulation effect.

2. Inorganic insulation materials
- Rock wool
Class A fireproof material, widely used for pipe insulation, but it will expand after absorbing water, and it is not recommended for wall insulation. - Expanded perlite
It is heavy and has high water absorption, but the raw material source is wide and the production facilities are simple. - Foam glass
It has good fire resistance and durability and is suitable for high temperature environments. - Foamed cement
It is light and has good thermal insulation performance, but cement and glue powder need to be added during construction. - Aluminum silicate composite thermal insulation coating
A new environmentally friendly material with excellent sound absorption, high temperature resistance, water resistance and frost resistance, suitable for a variety of environments. - Inorganic active wall thermal insulation material
The thermal insulation material is directly applied to the base wall, and the effect of coating and facing brick finish can be achieved on the outside without hanging the net.
3. Composite material thermal insulation material
- Metal sandwich panel
The core material is usually polystyrene, glass beads, polystyrene particles, etc., with good thermal insulation performance and structural strength. - Composite silicate
It is composed of a variety of inorganic materials and has good thermal insulation performance and durability. - Glue powder polystyrene particle insulation mortar
Using premixed dry mortar as the main cementitious material, adding appropriate anti-cracking fibers and various additives, it has good insulation effect and is easy to construct.
4. Insulation and anti-cracking materials
Welded wire mesh, hot-dip galvanized steel wire mesh, mesh cloth
Used to prevent cracks and hollowing in the wall, improve construction efficiency and anti-cracking performance.
