Silicon carbide rod is a tubular non-metallic high-temperature electric heating element made of high-quality green silicon carbide as the main raw material, processed into blanks, high-temperature silicification, and recrystallization.Compared with metal electric heating elements, this element has the characteristics of high operating temperature, long life, small deformation, and convenient installation and maintenance.Therefore, silicon carbide electric heating elements are widely used in a variety of high-temperature electric furnaces and other electric heating equipment in industries such as magnetic materials, powder metallurgy, ceramics, glass, metallurgy, and machinery.

The maximum operating temperature of silicon carbon rods is 1500°C.

The normal operating temperature in an oxidizing atmosphere can reach 1300°C-1450°C.

Silicon carbon rod production process

  1. Raw material pretreatment: Mix the required raw materials in a certain proportion, and perform pretreatment such as screening and crushing to ensure uniform particle size of the raw materials.
  2. Mixture crushing: The mixture is crushed by ball mill and other equipment to meet the set particle size requirements
  3. Pressing and molding: The crushed mixture is placed in the molding equipment for extrusion molding. The molded silicon carbon rod has a certain hardness and mechanical strength
  4. Drying treatment: The molded silicon carbon rod is placed in the drying room for low-temperature drying treatment to remove the moisture in it for calcination treatment
  5. Calcination treatment: The dried silicon carbon rod is placed in a high-temperature furnace for calcination treatment. The temperature is usually above 1500℃. The calcination time is determined according to the requirements. The calcined silicon carbon rod has a certain oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance.
  6. Surface treatment: The finished product is polished, cut, trimmed, etc. to give it better mechanical properties and appearance quality.

Silicon carbide rod heating principle

Silicon carbide rod is a non-metallic electric heating element mainly made of silicon carbide. Its heating principle is based on resistance heating, as follows:

  1. Resistance heating: The silicon carbide rod has a large resistivity. When current passes through, due to the existence of resistance, the electrical energy is converted into heat energy, thus heating the silicon carbide rod and its surrounding materials.
  2. Non-linear resistance characteristics: The resistivity of silicon carbon rods changes non-linearly with temperature. At room temperature, the resistivity is large; as the temperature increases, the resistivity decreases rapidly until it reaches the lowest value at about 800 degrees Celsius; then, as the temperature continues to increase, the resistivity gradually increases again.
  3. Temperature control: Since the resistivity of silicon carbide rods changes significantly with temperature, the heating temperature can be precisely controlled by monitoring and adjusting the current.
  4. Application advantages: Silicon carbon rods have good chemical stability, acid resistance, resistance to rapid cooling and heating, and are not easily deformed at high temperatures, so they are widely used in the field of industrial heating.
